Under this program, the country will have some 500 enterprises providing hi-tech products and services by 2020. The program will focus on developing four hi-tech industries, namely information and communication technology (ICT), biotechnology, automatic technology and new material technology. Regarding ICT, Vietnam will focus on developing microchips, basic software and technologies that ensure the operation of modern telecom infrastructure, new-generation Internet network and manufacture of terminals. The proportion of hi-tech value in the country’s industrial production is expected at 30 percent by 2015 and 40 percent by 2020.

This particular market is forecast to expand at an overall compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10 percent through 2015, with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City accounting for most sales.Specifically, Vietnamese domestic market computer hardware sales (including notebooks and accessories) aim to reach USD1.5 billion in 2011, up from USD 1.4 billion last year.

Meanwhile, Vietnam's domestic audio, video and gaming device market is forecast at USD1.2 billion in 2011. The market is expected to earn USD 2.1 billion by 2015. The government's plan for digital TV broadcasting migration by 2020 will encourage replacement TV purchases.Moreover, the total Vietnamese market handset sales are expected to grow 27.4 million units in 2015, as mobile subscriber penetration soars towards 302 percent.
